Project Description:
Need: Infants experiencing medical trauma and their families often have unmet mental health needs. Overall goals and objectives: This project, funded through foundation and other charitable gifts from Tikun Olam Foundation, Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles, and Newman's Own Foundation, seeks to increase access to mental health services for infants experiencing medical trauma, increase training in Child-Parent Psychotherapy for mental health professionals serving infants, and increase knowledge about infant mental health needs and services in medical providers. Unusual features: Application of the Child-Parent Psychotherapy model to infants with medical trauma. Expected Benefits: Increase in the number of mental health professionals training in Child-Parent Psychotherapy; increase awareness of infant mental health needs among medical providers and family members of infants with medical conditions; increase access to mental health services to infants with medical conditions.
