Project Description:
The Project Director will provide training and technical assistance to the Roses for Autism (RFA) program based in Guilford, CT. In this capacity, she will assist RFA staff (particularly the special education teacher and employment specialist assigned to the RFA Career Training Program) in all aspects of the curriculum and instruction necessary to enable teenagers and young adult with autism to develop the technical and soft skills they need to be successfully employed in competitive community jobs with or without ongoing supports. Training will be provided to RFA staff, family members, and community partners regarding evidence-based, evidence-informed, and promising practices in values-based autism interventions, positive behavior supports, data collection methods and quality assurance indicators, community job development and placement, and development and maintenance of natural supports. Technical assistance (TA) will be provided to facilitate communication and professional relationships between business and program operations at RFA and between RFA, families, individual participants, and community partners. TA also will be provided to team in development of Individual Vocational Support Plans, to staff in accessing community resources, and to community employers in hiring and retaining employees with autism . The Project Director also will provide consultation about inclusive career training program services, autism-specific supports and accommodations, and positive behavior supports for RFA's parent organization, Ability Beyond Disability, on an as-needed basis.
