Project Description:
Over 2000 people are homeless in central Arkansas on a given night. Many of those persons have disabilities. Partners worked with the Arkansas Supportive Housing Network to organize the Arkansas Homeless Coalition to advocate for improved services and to help coordinate agencies and individuals who are providing services. Monthly meetings help advocates to organize and coordinate services. Sponsor of annual conference, gift caravan during the holiday season, and awareness events throughout the year. Advocacy activities with local government for a day resource center and with the state legislature for a housing trust fund. The Coalition is working to obtain an accurate count of individuals with disabilities who are homeless and to find emergency shelter options for persons with disabilities, who are not able to be housed in existing shelters. The UCEDD Director is serving on the Executive Committee.
