Testing of the Transition Preparation Program
Project Description:
The purpose of this study is to examine whether adolescents with spina bifida between the ages of 14 and 18 years will benefit from attending a 2 day workshop on making transition plans for the future related to obtaining health care from adult providers, having a job, getting more education or training, and living as independently as possible in the community of your choice compared to adolescents who do not. All adolescents, including yourself will be asked to answer questions about your circle of friends and family, the self-care activities you do for yourself related to your state of health, and other daily activities you do for yourself such as staying in touch with friends, taking the bus, going to the store, and your daily routines. You will also be asked questions about your age, ethnicity, race, your spina bifida, grade level in school, any previous and current employment experiences, sources of income support and type of services used by you and your family.
