Alaska LEND without Walls (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities) provides graduate level interdisciplinary leadership training for individuals with a commitment to providing family-centered coordinated systems of health care and related services to improve the health of infants, children, and adolescents who have, or are at risk for developing, autism and other developmental disabilities. Overarching aim: Develop interdisciplinary leadership skills to promote systems change and advocacy on behalf of children and adolescents with developmental disabilities and their families. Goal 1: Advance the knowledge and skills of the full range of health and other professionals to improve healthcare delivery systems for children and youth with ASD/DD in rural and frontier communities in Alaska. Goal 2: Provide high quality interdisciplinary, leadership education to health and other professionals which emphasizes the integration of services supported by State, local agencies, organizations, private providers and communities. Goal 3: Provide a wide range of health and other professionals working in rural and frontier communities in Alaska with the skills needed to foster a community-based partnership of health resources and community leadership. Goal 4: Promote innovative practice models that enhance cultural competency, partnerships among disciplines, and family-centered approaches to care. Goal 5: Provide interdisciplinary training opportunities to build capacity to evaluate, diagnose or rule out, develop and provide evidence-based interventions to individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities.
