ACM Lifting Lives Music Camp

Project Description:

The VKC UCEDD holds a 1-week residential Music Camp for individuals with Williams syndrome, who are prone to strengths in music, and others with developmental disabilities who have musical talent. Campers learn new skills in song writing, production, performance, and music appreciation, and discuss careers in music and how music fosters social and adaptive skills, self-esteem and empowerment. The camp builds on Nashville's strengths in music. Campers tour music venues (e.g., Country Music Hall of Fame) and work directly with professional musicians on Music Row to write and produce a song, cut a CD, and perform live at the Grand Ole Opry. Campers also have the opportunity to take part in research. The camp provides training opportunities for students in special education and other disciplines.
