Project Description:
The University of Minnesota Research and Training Center on Community Living (RTC/CL), is a collaboration with the Institute on Community Inclusion (U Mass-Boston), Human Services Research Institute, National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disabilities Services, and the Center on Human Policy (Syracuse U.). It is the designated Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on community living and employment for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities of the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research. The RTC/CL has more than 20 years of continuous center funding for the development and dissemination of knowledge to promote community living, employment and self-determination of persons with ID/DD. The RTC/CL has: respected research teams; strong commitments to professional dissemination (more than 170 books, book chapters, and journal articles, and more than 120 technical reports and curricula published since 2000); nationally recognized internal publications (e.g., IMPACT, Policy Research Brief); popular websites (e.g., QualityMall); extensive technical assistance programs; comprehensive research and professional training programs; and productive training programs in applied practices. The RTC/CL's "intramural" training program develops a next generation of skilled disability researchers and professionals through engagement in RTC/CL research, training and technical assitance programs. Nationally recognized "extramural" training programs include: a) the annual Reinventing Quality Conference, b) presentations at conferences and workshops for national, regional, and state audiences, c) a state of the science conference, and the RTC/CL's College of Direct Support, a national multimedia, interactive internet-based training program that trains 150,000 direct support professionals and supervisors in person-centered community supports.
