Project Description:
The proposed project is designed to develop and evaluate an approach to increase access to information and support resources for African American and Hispanic families of children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN) to help them locate and advocate for appropriate services. It responds to field driven concerns about disparities in accessing the system of services to serve CYSCHN and their families and one of the key steps to achieving the MCHB 6 Core Outcomes for Children and Youth with Special health Care needs and their Familiesincreasing family knowledge. The approach is grounded in Diffusion of Innovation theory, reflects the principles of cultural and linguistic competence and can be implemented by existing Family-to-family support and information centers. This research collaborates with federally-funded Family-to-family Centers that are serving African American and Hispanic communities in their states.
