Project Description:
The Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development-University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (GUCCHD-UCEDD) proposes a quality assurance and improvement initiative to assist the District of Columbia's Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) to meet its regulatory and legal requirements. The initiative will focus on health and related health issues that impact access to quality services and supports and ultimately quality of life for people with intellectual disabilities. The scope of this initiative will include the evaluation of the extent to which adaptive equipment, dental services, therapy services (occupational, physical, speech-language and nutritional) are available, provision of recommendations to increase the availability and quality of these services, and implementation of specific recommendations to increase the ability of the DDA service delivery system to deliver timely quality services in these areas to individuals. The scope will also include tracking recommendations from the Mortality Review, Fatality Review Committee and Restrictive Controls Committees and providing follow up with service agencies to report compliance with recommendations. Community agency staff will be offered education related to dental health, and evidence-based means of training, supervising and motivating support staff. Finally, a process will be developed in collaboration with an area hospital to decrease the incidence of adverse outcomes associated with hospitalization. Strategies identified in this proposal cover the first year of the contract. The goal of this initiative is to assist the District of Columbia's Developmental Disabilities Administration meet its regulatory and legal requirements. Specific outcomes outlined in the following proposal will assist DDS/DDA in achieving compliance with the 2010 Revision to the 2001 Plan for Compliance and Conclusion of Evans v. Gray
