Project Description:
The purpose of the Parent Implemented Training for Autism through Teleconsultation (PITA-T) Project is to conduct innovative research on an evidence-based intervention that improves the health and well-being of children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and other Developmental Disabilities (DD). It is designed to add to the advancement of current knowledge leading to improvements in intervention and to offer new, scientifically-based information to health professionals, the public and families impacted by ASD. Specifically, PITA-T tests the efficacy of a novel Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) delivery method (asynchronous video modeling to parents) to address service and training barriers associated with rural and low-income families. The overall goal of the proposed research is to determine if asynchronous video teleconsultation can (1) facilitate effective implementation of ABA through a parent (2) improve social skills of children receiving ABA therapy from parents and (3) reduce parental stress level during treatment.
