Project Description:
The Self-Advocacy Project is focused on efforts to better support self-advocacy at the UCEDD of the University of Washington. Objectives for this project include program development and promotion and self-advocacy training. For program development and promotion, staff will identify existing resources and develop new resources to promote self-advocacy to stakeholders including: self-advocates, advisors, family members, trainees, faculty and staff, the CHDD Consumer Advisory Council and the general public. Resources will include web-based and hard copy materials, as well as presentations for promoting self-advocacy to various groups. For self-advocacy training, staff will help develop a self-advocate trainee position as part of the LEND program at the CHDD. This will be accomplished by coordinating with UW LEND faculty & staff and non-UW stakeholders to build on existing models for self-advocacy trainee programs.
