Project Description:
The Autism & Communications Disorders Clinic provides diagnostic services to families referred because of suspected autism or communication difficulties. This clinic serves children between birth and five years of age. The team consists of a developmental cognitive neurologist, clinical psychologist, occupational therapist, and speech language pathologist. The GUCCHD team uses a strengths-based approach to assess neurological functioning, cognitive abilities, adaptive skills, sensory-motor processing, communication and social interaction. The clinic provides differential diagnoses so that families may access appropriate community resources, information on the child?s individual strengths and needs, referrals to recommended therapeutic interventions, community resources and supports. Follow-up is provided for neurological and pediatric follow-up for the treatment of autism and associated medical conditions.
