Educating Hispanic Parents of Children with ASD on Bio-medical Research Findings on ASD to Enhance their Healthcare Decisions

AZLEND serves many Hispanic families with children at risk for or have developmental disabilities through their Developmental and Behavioral Pediatric Outpatient Clinics, the Neonatal Neurodevelopmental Follow-Up Clinic; the the Infant and Preschool Psychiatry Sub-specialty Clinic; the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinics, and the Grunewald-Blitz Clinic for Communication Disorders in Children at the UA Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences. AZLEND also has a strong working relationship with a border community health center (Mariposa Community Health Center) in Nogales Arizona where children with or at risk for disabilities are served.
This grant involves five major institutions-The University of Southern CA (applicant), the USC UCEDD at Children's Hospital LA (overall management and implementation) and three academic/research units (replication sites) where the process for developing and disseminating the healthcare informational product "Science Briefs" for Hispanic families with one or more child the Autism Spectrum Disorder will be replicated and field tested.
