Center:
Fiscal Year:
2013
Contact Information:
Project Description:
The purpose of this activity is to develop and value health care procedure codes and to educate audiologists, speech-language pathologists, other rehab providers, and graduate students. The development and valuation aspects involve participation on the AMA's Health Care Professions Advisory Committee and working with the Medicare branch of CMS. The education focuses on correct coding initiatives, documentation, compliance, and reimbursement issues. The information is disseminated through print media, seminars, webinars, and platform presentations. The overall objectives is to create a favorable reimbursement environment in order to make diagnostic and intervention services available to all populations, especially those with special needs. This is particularly important in an era when health care dollars are shrinking. Access to appropriate services for individuals needing audiological diagnostic services, speech-language intervention, and other rehab interventions is the expected benefit. The intent is to make these services economically viable and available to all, but especially to special needs populations who need them most.
