Autism and Vision Impairment
Project Description:
Need: Children with vision impairment (VI) often exhibit autistic symptoms, but there are no diagnostic tools designed to assess autism in this population; children with both ASD and VI are often under-served in the school and early intervention systems.
Overall goals and objectives: Develop, pilot, and disseminate autism diagnostic tools for children with VI; evaluate availability of cognitive assessment tools for children with VI; evaluate service delivery for children with both VI and ASD.
Unusual features: focus on children with both VI and ASD.
Expected benefits: Novel diagnostic approaches useful to both clinicians and researchers; improved access to care for this unique population.
