Project Description:
The project goal is to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities. The course of action to accomplish this goal is to continue to improve the level of health care services the CDD provides to people with disabilities and their families. Children with developmental disabilities often experience a range of unfamiliar and often upsetting communication problems caused by potential cognitive, sensory, or launguage barriers that distance them from family and caregivers. Such children are typically referred to the Center for Disabilities and Development for evaluation via the Augmentative/alternative Communication Service (AAC). The AAC Service provides individuals with limited to no functional modes of communication with alternative means to enhance overall abilities. Typically, this goal is accomplished through the use of low to high communicatin technology aids.
