Facilitating Language and Learning through Customized Language Representations
Project Description:
Many children have intellectual, language, and/or sensory difficulties that interfere with their effective understanding and use of pictures. Using an image manipulation tool called Chauvet; pictures can be tailored to childrens preferences and abilities. Images captured from the environment in photographic form can be manipulated to align with each child's intellectual, visual and language profile. With support from the National Institute of Deafness and other Communication Disorders, the research team is investigating the impact of customized graphics on language learning and use among students with autism and related developmental disorders.
