Emergency Preparedness For People With Disabilities
Project Description:
The New Mexico Task Force On Emergency Preparedness For People With Disabilities, Seniors, People With A Chronic Mental Illness, Chronic Substance Abusers, Children With Special Health Care Needs And Substance Abusers is doing the following tasks:
Conducting a statewide assessment to find out about the needs of these groups in the event of a large-scale public health emergency from any source. Besides gathering information on the needs of these groups, the assessment will also help us discover gaps – things we don’t know about the needs of these groups, but need to find out.
Producing “tip sheets†for first responders and other emergency preparedness personnel to help them understand the needs of these groups. These tip sheets will give people responding to an emergency use-ful information they can use when interacting with these groups of individuals.
Developing a training course for first responders and other emergency preparedness personnel on inter-acting with these groups.
