History, Ethics, and Health Policy: Systems of Care for People with DD
Project Description:
The history of persons with MR/DD continues to influence current policy and ethical decisions. This on-going research and dissemination project explores specific ways in which historical circumstances--documented by professional scholars or emotionally resonant to advocates--affect the lives of persons with MR/DD. Our goals are to (1) inform advocates, policy-makers, and the general public about our shared history; (2) provide critical context to understanding current issues; and (3)improve current policy by learning from past successes and mistakes. We also serve as clinical ethics consultants to Holtz Children's Hospital/Jackson Health Systems, as well as a local consorium of hospitals.
