Center:
Fiscal Year:
2013
Contact Information:
Project Description:
NEED:Louisiana has a high rate of high school drop out for adolescents with disabilities. Additionally, adolescents with disabilities are much more likely to be involved with the criminal justice system. Educational outcomes for these adolescents are less than optimal. GOALS: The overall goals of this project include improving the high school graduation rates of adolescents with disabilities and decreasing the individual's involvement with the justice system. FEATURES: This project uses career-focused mentoring for youth with disabilities involved with or at-risk of becoming involved with the juvenile justice system. Funded by the Department of Justice's Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) and led by The Institute for Educational Leadership (IEL), RAMP is being implemented at 12 sites across the country by state and local organizations with expertise in mentoring, youth development, and/or disability. The RAMP model utilizes a combination of group, peer, and one-on-one mentoring. EXPECTED BENEFITS: Participating youth are supported to successfully transition to employment, continued learning opportunities, and independent living.
