Abuse and Neglect of Children with Disabilities
Project Description:
Abuse and Neglect of Children with Disabilities: A Collaborative Response provides statewide training for professionals serving children with disabilities and parent advocates. The training provides a model interdisciplinary training for educators, child protection workers, law enforcement officers, parents of children with disabilities, and other community professionals. The course is presented by a team of expert trainers, including an educator, a law enforcement officer, child protective services professional and a parent advocate for children with disabilities. Trainers model interdisciplinary collaboration and foster discussion among participants about ways to improve the local collaborative response to abuse and neglect of children with disabilities. During 2007-2008 the training was held in Portsmouth, Alexandria, Williamsburg, and Richmond and reached over 175 participants.
