Project Description:
This project is designed as a collaborative pilot project (interlocal agreement) between the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (BVR), Sierra Regional Center (SRC) and the Nevada Center for Excellence in Disabilities (NCED). This pilot study is initially funded through BVR to the NCED to secure integrated, competitive employment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD). The project would evaluate the use of non-traditional assessment (Discovery and Portfolio development) and placement methods (Job Development), with a goal of placing 30 persons with ID/DD in the community. Discovery may include a community-based career exploration activity, developed in a assessment phase. Those with DD/ID receiving integrated employment services in NV is 20% and those actually working in the community for commensurate wages is far lower (e.g., 9%). This is an extreme need in NV. The overall goal is to place 30 persons with DD/ID per year in integrated work settings where they are earning commensurate wages, and have them maintain their jobs. This is the only project like this in NV,
