2.02 Southwest Conference on Disability The Center on Disability and Development co-sponsors the annual Southwest Conference on Disability with the Center on Development and Disability at the University of New Mexico. The Southwest Conference on Disability provides interdisciplinary training and information on the educational and community service needs of people with disabilities and their families. The goal of the annual Southwest Conference on Disability is to explore what we have in common, not what divides us. The conference is attended by a wide range of individuals including researchers in academic and government agencies; service providers; family members; disability advocates and staff of federal, state and local government agencies. In addition, many attendees are people with physical, mental health, sensory and cognitive disabilities. Along with the Texas A&M UCEDD and the University of New Mexico UCEDD, national sponsors of the Southwest Conference on Disability included the Disability and Health Team at the CDC, the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Research Center), AAHD, the Cody Unser First Step Foundation, the Texas Governor?s Committee on People with Disability, and the Texas Center for Disability Studies, University of Texas.
