Project Description:
Background: Cherish the Family (CTF) program targets mothers with children (0-3) engaged in the child welfare system in Broward County, FL. Using attachment theory as the framework, CTF collaborates with community partners to provide services to strengthen a mother?s ability to care for her child. CTF links mothers to substance abuse and mental health services, job training, and connects families to informal support networks. The goal is to ensure a child's stability, permanency, and child wellbeing. Methods: A multimodal nonrandomized design using a treatment and comparison group investigates the change in protective and risk factors and attachment/interaction between mother and child. The research attempts to answer the following question: Does the Cherish the Family program increase the parental self-sufficiency and enhanced capacity to care for one?s child? Be evaluating the effectivness of this program we are hoping to develop a sustainable model for serving these families that can be implemented statewide.
