Catie B Project for Family Centered Care
Project Description:
The Catie B Project for Family Centered Care was established in 2009 with the generous support of Jason Baker. His vision is to help prepare professionals in health care settings who interact with children with special health care needs (CSHCN) and their families to become partners in supporting those families to access and reach the resources and supports they need. The initial seed funding from Jason Baker was intended to jump start the program. In the future when endowed, the Project plans to have a research faculty member, a director of the project and annual fellowships for students from social work, nursing and other health related disciplines. The school plans to implement a certificate program specializing in family centered care with children with
special health care needs and their families. In preparation for the certificate program, funding from Jason Baker has allowed the IU School of Social Work to hire a part time faculty member to teach a specialized course in the graduate curriculum on Children with Special Health Care Needs. This 600 level course is aligned with the health concentration in the School of Social Work; however students from other concentrations are welcome and encouraged to participate as their coursework allows. It has been challenging to align with the School of Nursing curricula to date however efforts continue to discover ways to promote an interdisciplinary experience that meets both schoolÂs complex requirements for accreditation. Students report high satisfaction and success with their experience as a Catie B Fellow.
