Project Description:
The Nevada Sibling Network holds a variety of activities for siblings of people with disabilities. They sponsor Sibshop Facilitator Trainings, Sibshops, Sibs-Create, and have a network of adult siblings in their sibling network. The NCED, has invited Don Meyer to train 18 facilitators to run Sibshops in Nevada. Sibshops are best described as opportunities for brothers and sisters of children with special health and developmental needs to obtain peer support and education within a recreational context. They reflect an agency's commitment to the well-being of the family member most likely to have the longest-lasting relationship with the person with special needs. Sibs-Create is group for middle and high school aged teens with a sibling who has a disability. Group members express themselves through writing and art. Sibs meet other sibs and share their experience through poetry, prose, journal entries, song lyrics, and art.
