Project Description:
WIHD is part of a national consortium funded by the Administration on Developmental Disabilities to establish a national training intiative to enhance self-determination for individuals with developmental disabilities, and to improve quality of life outcomes throughout the lifespan. The Consortium is led by the UCEDDs at the University of Missouri and the University of Kansas, with participation by the UCEDDs at the University of Oregon, the University of Illinois, and WIHD. Phase I of the project is designed to review and identify national self-determination training resources and gaps using an evidence-baseed framework; Phase II will develop and test approaches that address barriers to self-determination, fill existing gaps, and provide national self-determination training; and Phase III will focus on marketing the project results nationally to promote large-scale diffusion, implementation, and sustainability. WIHD's unique areas of expertise include: self-determination and health; use of training technologies; and self-determination and families.
