Project Description:
The Virginia Project for Children and Young Adults with Deaf-Blindness (VA Deaf-Blind Project) at Virginia Commonwealth University, in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Education, is pleased to announce the piloting of a unique professional development opportunity to help build local capacity for working with students with deaf-blindness and DSI. Because 85% or more of students with deaf-blindness or DSI have additional disabilities, this program will also address the needs of students with sensory impairments and additional disabilities. The VA Deaf-Blind Project will select five paraprofessionals and five teachers or related service providers who are currently providing services for a student with dual sensory impairment between the ages of birth to 22 to participate in the piloting of this professional development program. Participants in the pilot program will be selected from those who have requested technical assistance from the VA Deaf-Blind Project in recent years and who have requested more training.
