Project Description:
Project Conectar is a federally-funded Research Topic of Interest (RTOI), a cooperative agreement between the Association of University Centers on Disabilities and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This RTOI is a two-year project that researches the application of early intervention efforts via natural supports within underserved and underrepresented primarily Hispanic families in Little Havana, Miami. The goals of the project are to adapt, modify, or create Center for Disease Control early intervention materials, ?Learn the Signs Act Early,? and to understand the barriers and facilitators for families in seeking early intervention for their young children. The innovation of this project is to understand the use of natural supports or community supports (Promotoras) in this neighborhood and the impact they have in overcoming the barriers and capitalizing on the facilitators for families in building their capacity to seek assistance.
