Project Description:
The Center for Learning and Leadership/Oklahoma UCEDD (CLL) has utilized funding from the Oklahoma Developmental Disabilities Council (ODDC) to develop, coordinate and support a Learning Community around the concept of Person-Centered Practices. We have adopted the name, Oklahoma Learning Community for Person Centered Practices. The name is based on the original Learning Community founded by Michael Smull and others (http://www.learningcommunity.us/). We are working in partnership with the Oklahoma Disability Law Center and Bios, Inc./A Better Living Homecare. The purpose of the Learning Community is bring together professionals, self advocates and families who are committed to learning and training together to increase knowledge and skills in person-centered thinking and practices. We will provide training to the members of the Learning Community to prepare them to work in teams of a family member and professional to deliver training that increases person-centered thinking and practices. Members of the Learning Community also provide individualized plan development for self advocates and families. The overall goal of the project is to provide tools to families and professionals across our state that ultimately results in people with developmental disabilities and their families having more control over their lives. The Learning Community will share lessons learned, provide suggestions for improvement and give feedback to one another to improve training skills, methods, content and approaches. The members also will share success stories and keep track of changes in our communities that can be attributed to the training.
