USC UCEDD/CSULA Minority Partnership Grant
Project Description:
The USC UCEDD at Childrens Hospital LA (CHLA) is partnering with California State University Los Angeles (CSULA), a minority serving institution, to increase the capacity and responsiveness of the USC UCEDD to serve racially/culturally/linguistically diverse (RCL) populations with disabilities and to round-out or enhance CSULA's current array of academic, community service, and research programs using UCEDD expertise in individuals with, or at risk for, behavioral, developmental and or special health care needs and their families; inter-disciplinary practice and process; service models for special populations; and access to our in-house clinics and training programs. Four major areas of collaborative activities were targeted by this grant: (1) Faculty Development and Shifting the Institutional Culture of the USC UCEDD and its home institutions (CHLA and USC) towards embracing racial, cultural and linguistic diversity of students, faculty and leadership; (2) Faculty/Student Exchange; (3) Cross-institutional Collaborative Projects to address RCL disparities and effective interventions; (4) Pipeline programs to increase the racial and cultural diversity of individuals entering and achieving career mobility in the field of DD and special needs. Over the course of the grant, the project has worked with the College of Health and Human Services, Charter College of Education, Minority Opportunities in Research (MORE), and other departments and colleges at CSULA and key programs and academic units of the UCEDD, Childrens Hospital LA, and USC to meet the goals of this project, develop meaningful partnerships and create the infrastructure for long-term sustainability.
