Developmental Disabilities Lecture Series
Project Description:
The Developmental Disabilities Lecture Series is a community and continuing education program provided to Division of Developmental Disabilities staff, provider agencies, consumers, and family members to enhance their knowledge and skills in innovative approaches and state-of-the-art practices for people with developmental disabilities. Eight sessions of the Developmental Disabilities Lecture Series are offered each year, four in the Fall and four in the Spring. Topics for the Series are chosen in collaboration with the Division of Developmental Disabilities and feedback from participants to address current issues and needs in the state. Continuing education recognition from applicable professional organizations are available to participants who attend the Developmental Disabilities Lecture Series. The Developmental Disabilities Lecture Series reaches approximately 1,500 participants each year, representing a diverse audience of staff from DDD, provider agencies, consumers, and family members.
Nationally known speakers with expertise in their field serve as faculty for the program, each conducting a morning presentation and providing technical assistance in the afternoon forum.
In the afternoon forums, a diverse group of DDD staff, provider agencies, consumers, family members, and other state or community agencies is gathered for collaborative problem solving and round table discussions on important policy issues and initiatives. The group is able to utilize the expertise of the morning presenter in applying their knowledge and experience to the issues faced in New Jersey.
