Person-Centered Practices (PCP) Institute
Project Description:
The IPCP is an collaborative initiative with the Center on Disability and Development (UCEDD at Texas A & M) to provide training for people with disabilities, families, educators, private providers, adult protection services workers, agency professionals/service coordinators, and vocational rehabilitation counselors on person centered thinking, plan facilitation and provider agency systems change.
With increased opportunities for people with disabilities to live in their communities made available by Money Follows the Person initiatives and increased efforts to enforce Olmstead, providers, agency staff, and families are engaging in person centered approaches to support people to live lives based on preferences and individual goals. The IPCP provides training that is focused on specific discovery tools to develop planning based on what is important to and for a person to live a valued community life. This approach is a process that gathers information about the day to day activity in a person?s life in an effort to create better lives not just better plans. The process is applicable to a broad range of people. Trainers are certified through The Learning Community and are required to develop their own plans before offering training to others.
The goals of the IPCP are to develop a diversely represented network of certified trainers to provide training, offer technical support and distribute information on person centered thinking and plan facilitation that will create capacity to support people with disabilities to live in community. The IPCP will work with statewide private provider networks to provide training and consultation to impact fundamental infrastructure change the will embed person centered thinking at every level of service delivery. The IPCP will also develop models that will incorporate the process into other service delivery planning required by statewide monitoring entities.
The IPCP should facilitate opportunities for people with disabilities to directly benefit from a relevant planning process that is person centered and is reflected within the systems in place to support and actualize the individual?s plan.
