Project Description:
The Autism Waiver Project is a contract from the State Department of Human Services-Develomental Disabilities Services (DDS)Division to conduct research on best practices in intensive intervention for young children with autism and develop the state's program for an intensive intervention waiver. The waiver was the result of a state law directing DDS to develop such a program. The agency lacked the expertise in the area and therefore contracted with the UCEDD for its development. The project researched similar medicaid programs in other states, conducted needs sensing activities across the state of ARkansas, proposed a design for the program and assisted the state in seeking approval from CMS. The design included definition of services, reimbursement rates, provider qualifications, eligible target audience and all quality assurance processes. The design was reviewed by the Arkansas Legislative Task Force on Autism, prior to submission for approval from CMS. The UCEDD has negiotiated a companion contract with the state to administer the waiver upon approval from CMS.
