Adolescents with Spina Bifida Reasons for Agreeing to Participate in the Testing of the Transition Preparation Training research study.
Project Description:
Youth who participated in the Testing of the Transition Preparation Training Program and we are interested in learning the reasons why you and other teens agreed to participate in the study (#CCI-05-824). We want to learn the reasons why you participated in this study and also learn from you any ideas you might have that could be used to recruit for other research studies. Participation in this study is completely voluntary. Please read the information below, and ask questions about anything you do not understand, before deciding whether or not to participate.
The proposed study is an outgrowth of the Testing the Transition Preparation Training Program to investigate reasons why they consented to participate in the study (#CCI-05-824) . Subjects for this study will be recruited from the subject pool of a previous spina bifida study (and specify the CCI protocol number: CCI-05-824.
We are interested in learning the reasons offered by adolescents with spina bifida as to why they consented to participate in this research study, their ideas as to why youth do not participate in research studies and their recommendations to enhance the participation of youth in research studies. The recruitment of youth into research studies is a challenge as has been acknowledged by other researchers (Broome & Richards, 2003; Villaruel, Jemmott, Jemmott, & Eakin, 2006). Limited research studies have been conducted that inform other researchers as to strategies that may enhance recruitment efforts (Clark-Jones & Broome, 2001; Lamb, Puskar, & Tusaie-Mumford, 2001; Villaruel et al., 2006)
