Project Description:
The Research and Training Center on Community Living (RTC) at the University of Minnesota?s Institute on Community Integration will create two 15-19 minute Realistic Job Preview videos on working with individuals with developmental disabilities for the North Dakota Department of Human Services, Medical Services Division. The first video will illustrate the realities of working as a direct service provider (DSP), providing supports to people in various settings through a traditional provider agency. The second video will show the work of qualified service provider (QSPs), also providing supports to individuals with developmental disabilities but working independently. Both videos will serve North Dakota?s efforts to support community-based services and community inclusion for individuals with disabilities. RTC staff will create treatments and scripts for the two videos and spend at least five days shooting interviews and footage in North Dakota locations to include Bismarck, Fargo, and Fort Yates. Content experts from RTC will ensure fidelity of the project, identifying the best interview candidates and most appropriate sequences to illustrate the challenges, rewards, and everyday realities of working as a DSP or QSP. A professional crew will produce an estimated 15-20 hours of high definition footage that will be edited at RTC offices in Minneapolis. Closed captioned, master DVDs of each program will be provided to North Dakota?s Department of Human Services along with web-ready movies in various compressed formats.
