Through WIHD's Primary Care Services program, medical care is provided to individuals who reside with their families, in residential settings, and attend day programs. Because of our experience, we have a thorough understanding of the various documentation requirements that may be called for by each of these settings. On-site services include: Preventive Care - Annual physical examinations, gynecological screenings (Pap smears, pelvic and breast exams), cholesterol, thyroid function, prostate cancer and osteoporosis screenings, and testing for tuberculosis. Routine Medical Care - Annual physical examinations, completion of forms and clearance to participate in camps, day programs, and recreation programs such as Special Olympics, urgent care due to illness. Follow up Medical Services - Ongoing health problems such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity. Internal Medicine Services - Conditions such as hypertension, heart disease, hormonal imbalances, diabetes, cancer, auto-immune disorders. Laboratory Services - Ability to collect blood, urine, stool and other cultures. In addition to primary health care services for individuals with disabilities, WIHD offers extensive subspecialty services. These include: Endocrinology: Provides diagnosis and treatment of conditions such as hypothyroidism related to Down syndrome, osteoporosis related to Prader-Willi syndrome and immobility, hyperprolactinemia related to the use of certain psychotropic medications, hormonal imbalances related to Turner's syndrome. Pediatric and Adult ENT: This clinic serves patients from the entire community, including individuals with developmental disabilities, providing medical and surgical care for head and neck cancers, chronic sinusitis, ear infections, and hearing loss, as well as other conditions. Ophthalmology: Ability to screen patients' vision regardless of ability to read or recognize letters or pictures, prescribe corrective lenses, treat infections and other conditions such as glaucoma, and can provide surgical treatment of cataracts. Dermatology: Screenings for skin cancer and treatment of common skin disorders such as acne and skin rashes. Physiatry: Provides evaluations and contracts with appropriate vendors to fabricate custom wheelchairs, orthotics, and special shoes. Physical therapy: Staff provide evaluations and therapy plans. They also work closely with vendors to obtain the best equipment for our patients. Gynecology: Treatment includes routine evaluations, as well as handling all referrals for gynecological work-ups and surgery. Urology: This clinic addresses issues such as urinary incontinence, urinary tract infections, prostate screenings, testicular masses and the treatment of prostate cancer. Cardiology: Diagnosis and treatment for conditions such as congenital heart problems, cardiac disease, hypertension, and elevated lipids; Through affiliation with WMC, we are able to provide diagnostic tests such as EKG's, echocardiograms, and cardiac catheterization, as well as provide surgical intervention if needed. Otology: Specializes in conditions affecting the ears, such as infections, hearing loss, balance issues, injury to the ears and tumors. Podiatry: Provides routine nail care, foot care for diabetics, and the treatment of fungal and other infections of the feet and nails. Neurology: Care for conditions such as epilepsy, dementia, behavioral problems, and brain tumors, as well as care for our patients admitted to WMC with neurological problems. Arrangements can be made for inpatient admissions for evaluations that need to be performed under anesthesia such as CT scans, MRI's, etc.
