Project Description:
The IDD teacher certification option within the Education Department at the University of New Hampshire is a 7 course sequence that can be taken by students enrolled in the M.Ed. program in special education to gain an advanced certification credential in "intellectual and developmental disabilities." Some of the program's unique features include: instructors include individuals with disabilities and family members and a focus on values- and research-based rationales for inclusive education. The courses include: Contemporary Issues in Developmental Disabilities; Inclusive Assessment, Curriculum, Instruction, and Supports; Seminar in Augmentative Communication; Positive Behavior Supports; Facilitating Social Relationships; Teaching Reading to Students with Disabilities; and Leadership and Systems Change. Teachers with the skills taught in these courses are in high demand throughout the state of New Hampshire and nationally.
