Project Description:
The MT-TIRC Advisory Board was developed in 2007 to provide direction to one of the Rural Institute Transition Projects funded by the Administration on Developmental Disabilities. This board will continue to advise the Transition projects and their involvement with other statewide initiatives concerning transition. The board will provide input on: product development, training and dissemination activities, and mentoring and leadership development of youth with developmental disabilities. The advisory board will provide a "youth-friendly" forum for young people with developmental disabilities to develop and practice leadership and self-advocacy skills, as well as to shape and guide transition-related activities. The 15-20 member advisory board will be comprised of at least 51% young people (ages 13-30) with developmental disabilities. Other members will represent such groups as parents/family members of individuals with developmental disabilities; the Developmental Disabilities Program and community rehabilitation providers; Disability Rights Montana; the Office of Public Instruction; Vocational Rehabilitation; Parents, Let?s Unite for Kids; the Montana Council on Developmental Disabilities; the Montana Youth Leadership Forum; schools; and SSA. The Advisory Board?s mandate will include: * To engage young people with developmental disabilities in Montana to take action on issues, policies and programs that affect their lives. * To identify topics of interest for youth, teachers and families; develop webinar sessions; and serve as presenters to provide information on strategies and resources. * To identify emerging leaders who live, learn, work and/or play in their communities, capture their stories and share them with youth and their support providers.
