Project Description:
This project is a collaborative effort between LSUHSC-Human Development Center and the Louisiana Department of Education. The goals of the project are to improve educational practices and outcomes for students with autism spectrum disorders and related disabilities, and to develop statewide capacity to provide high quality programs for these students. To this end, the project will develop research based quality indicators and a guide to facilitate the integration of theory into practice. An Advisory Board representing different perspectives and expertise will help develop the quality indicators and guide. LSUHSC-Human Development Center will partner with the Louisiana Department of Education to identify local education agencies to participate in comprehensive, continuous team training based on the quality indicators. The project will provide ongoing technical assistance for these LEA teams. Weekly onsite technical assistance to each participating school will support their efforts to become high quality demonstration programs. Project staff and teams will develop the capacity to train others as well as establish demonstration sites. The Louisiana Autism Quality Indicators will also serve as a formative evaluation tool to assist all programs serving students with ASD in their quality improvement efforts.
