Center for Family Involvement and Support
The Center for Family Involvement and Support is a collaboration between the Partnership for People with Disabilities and the Virginia Department of Education to implement a collection of activities to promote education and advocacy for parents and families of children with disabilities, birth through 22 years of age. Center for Family Involvement and Support activities address a need for parents and families to have adequate information, training, materials and supports to understand, participate in and guide decision making about programs and services that affect them and their children with disabilities.
Major Activities:
? PARENT INVOLVEMENT ACTIVITIES
Review needs identified on the Parent Involvement Survey with the Parent Involvement Priority Project and work with them and providers of parent involvement supports to identify and implement activities to help VA schools in improving parent involvement and student outcomes.
? TRANSITION
Review results of the Parent Involvement Survey related to transition and work with the Transition Priority Project and the Parent Involvement Priority Project to develop a work plan for improved parent and student involvement in transition.
? PARENT RESOURCE CENTERS
VCU will bring together, provide and facilitate training for and networking among VA?s Parent Resource Center personnel.
? LOCAL SPECIAL EDUCATION ADVISORY COMMITTEES
VCU will maintain a local SEAC website and provide information, resources, training and technical assistance for local SEACs.
