Interdisciplinary Computer-Based Educational Modules
Project Description:
The purpose of the Interdisciplinary Computer-Based Educational Modules is to build the capacity of health care professionals who work with people that have developmental disabilities, by enhancing their knowledge of the role of various disciplines. The project uses a computer-based format to facilitate self-paced learning and disseminate the interdisciplinary training curriculum to a broad audience. Six introductory modules (audiology, physical therapy, speech and language, occupational therapy, nutrition and social work) that were developed by CHDD faculty and trainees have been converted into the computer based curriculum.Trainees enrolled in the CTU professional training program, Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND), other LEND programs across the country, and other CHDD and UW training programs may access the modules via internet. Each module focuses on the contribution and roles of a health discipline. A common outline is used in the computer-based modules and emphasis is placed on illustrating the unique and shared roles of the various disciplines within an interdisciplinary team setting. The modules are based on one-hour seminars and are designed to provide realistic examples of working with an interdisciplinary team. The modules are continually being evaluated and improved to ensure their effectiveness.
