HRSA Guam Early Hearing Detection and Intervention: Reducing Loss to Follow-up - Year 2
Project Description:
2nd year of GEHDI Phase III of HRSA-MCHB Grant:
The purpose of Guam EDHI Phase III is primarily to reduce the number of infants who are lost to follow-up following a failed hearing screening and to reduce the number of infants identified as high risk who are lost to follow-up after failing to return for a 6-month follow-up hearing screening, as well as to reduce the number of infants loss to follow-up following a Diagnostic Audiological Evaluation or placement for early intervention services. Guam EDHI Phase III will use the "model for improvement" method to test other options to reduce the number of infants who are loss to follow-up which may be more appropriate for a Pacific island culture such as Guam's. It will build on 5+ years of EHDI initiatives on Guam and will continue development by targeting the loss to follow-up population using methods recommended by HRSA; data analyses using the Guam ChildLink; by suggestions and recommendations made by the Guam EHDI Advisory Committee members; and by continuous study at both the national and local levels on latest strategies which have proven to be effective in reducing the number of infants who are loss to follow-up.
