Access to Services for Young Children

Center:
Fiscal Year:
2010
Contact Information:
Project Description:
Parents of young children often encounter barriers when trying to access services for their children's special needs. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the process and barriers parents face when trying to access services for young children with co-occurring developmental delay and behavioral challenges, and to examine the possible additional effects of parent?s language in relation to access and barriers. The study will evaluate access across 3 systems of care: the school district, community mental health agencies, and Regional Centers. In addition, we will separately analyze findings regarding access for Spanish-speaking vs. English-speaking callers. Findings will result in recommendations for service systems to improve access and reduce barriers for parents of young children.
