People with DD are more likely to experience mental illness than those in the general population. Sometimes it is difficult to find professionals who are trained in both developmental disability and mental illness, which also is called "dual diagnosis." Professionals trained in either developmental disability or mental illness alone sometimes are reluctant to serve those with dual diagnosis. Further, the systems of service generally are divided, so that leaves many to fall into the cracks between services. The purpose of this project is to create a partnership with other state-wide and local agencies to help mitigate the problem.
