Project Description:
The Center on Disability and Development at Texas A&M University is a part of the National Gateway to Self-Determination project through a subcontract from the University of Kansas (KU). This project is a collaborative effort among several UCEDDs across the country and is funded by the Administration on Developmental Disabilities of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The overall purpose of the national project is to support efforts to scale up the implementation of training and technical assistance with regard to self-determination and, thus, to enable people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to experience greater integration and an enhanced quality of life. Based on the overall purpose and structure of the KU activities, the Texas A&M center engages in the following activities: 1. Support the overall efforts of the entire project to build a coalition designed to support the creation of a national self-determination training initiative. 2. Engage with University of Kansas partners and other project partners to develop a model research-based framework that supports the development of self-determination skills and creates a sustainable plan for scaling up self-determination training on a national level. 3. Engage with University of Kansas partners and other project partners to develop and test approaches that fill existing gaps and provide national self-determination training. 4. Engage with University of Kansas partners and other project partners to support the large scale implementation and sustainability of the self-determination training initiative.
