Project Description:
The PBS Project is a training project funded by the DD Council to address the need for trained staff across the state to develop and implement positive behavioral support plans for individuals with developmental disabilities identified as presenting "challenging behaviors". The goal is to build capacity within the disabilities provider network to conduct FBA and develop PBS plans. The project is unusual in that the training is provided for teams from local provider organizations by walking them through the process of conducting FBAs and developing PBS plans by actually having them perform the process on an individual they serve as part of the training. The training is conducted in 5 days with time in between each session to allow the data collection and development of hypotheses, etc. as homework assignments. The homework is then reviewed during the subsequent training session with feedback provided by trainers. This provides for very practical and immediate application of the training concepts identified as necessary in the curriculum. Agreement has been reached with the State DD Agency that this training will serve as a certification for staff to provide behavioral assessment and intervention through the states's HCB Waiver. A testing process has been incorporated into the training so that at the culmination of the sessions, participants will be "certified" if the pass the test and complete the practicum assignments. A data-base will be maintained to track individuals across the state who have achieved this certification.
