Project Description:
The University of Kentucky Human Development Institute in collaboration with faculty and staff from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Oregon State University, and Utah State University comprise the NECTC research team. NECTC will accomplish its purpose through five interrelated activities: 1)identification of current research, models, policies and strategies; 2)ecological empirical studies of the complex factors influencing transitions; extension of the current research base on effective transition practices that result in positive outcomes for children and families as they relate to school success; 3)identification of state policies and practices that support the transition process, 4)identification and comparison of empirically and socially validated practices; and, 5)dissemination of strategies and tools in accessible formats to influence policy and practice. Research activities are enhanced through input from three specific groups. The Advisory Council provides input and feedback into the research design, reports and products. An Expert Panel assists with the identification of empirically validated practices, models and policies. Finally, a Diversity Work Group provides input into all phases of the Center's activities to help ensure that issues of children from diverse backgrounds are considered and addressed. Project activities began January 1, 2003 and continue through December 31, 2009.
