Project Description:
Objective 9a: Participate in meetings of the DD Network Partners (DDNP).
Dr. Hansen participates in the four annual in-person meetings of the DDNP and in the monthly telephone meetings to plan and review activities. At the Annual UCEDD Directors? meeting in California in February, Dr. Hansen and the directors of the other two California UCEDDs made a joint presentation about collaborative activities of the California DDNP.
Ojbective 9b: Participate as a member of the CACs for each partner, including State Council on Developmental Disabilities, Disability Rights California, USC UCEDD and the Tarjan Center.
A bill to include a representative from CEDD on the State Council on Developmental Disabilities CAC was passed by the California Legislature, and Governor Schwarzenegger has approved CEDD Director Robin Hansen to serve as the representative. CEDD is represented on the other California UCEDD CACs, by Gina Guarneri at the USC UCEDD and by Lori Llewelyn at the Tarjan Center.
Objective 9c: As a member of the DD Network Partners, participate in the development of a collaborative statewide strategic plan, with long and short-term goals.
The DDNP have developed a collaborative strategic plan which includes seven goals and corresponding activities. Progress is reviewed at quarterly meetings and activities updated on an annual basis. Robin Hansen participated in a presentation with the other California UCEDD directors and the executive directors of SCDD and Disability Rights California to the AUCD Board and the UCEDD Directors meeting in February on the collaborative activities of the DDNP in California.
Objective 9d: Conduct legislative education and advocacy.
CEDD sponsored a legislative advocacy workshop (attendance of 55) at the 2008 M.I.N.D. Summer Institute. CEDD staff and CAC members participated in Capital Legislative Action Day, in conjunction with the DD Network Partners, last May and will again this coming May.
Objective 9e: Participate in the joint project of the DDNP to prevent abuse of individuals with DD.
DDNP organized a Think Tank to address this issue. The Think Tank included two faculty from UC Davis. The Think Tank has issued a White Paper, and DDNP is now in the process of identifying a lead agency for follow-up activities.
Objective 9f: Develop a shared web site for the DD Network Partners.
All Network partners have well-developed websites of their own, with links between them. A DDNP joint website has been considered by the DDNP, but there are currently no resources available for the development and maintenance of such a project.
Objective 9g: Explore joint projects across the UCEDDs.
Examples of joint projects include the following:
? The Interagency Autism Planning Group (for more information, see Goal 2).
? The new blog entitled Home Visiting in Early Intervention (for more information, see Goal 5). Marie Poulsen, USC UCEDD is working with us on this by advertising and recruiting in southern California.
? In the coming year, we are planning to explore a collaboration with the Tarjan Center on transitions to post-secondary education.
