CDC: Guam EHDI System Advancement & Refinement
Project Description:
The tracking and surveillance system will:
Goal 1: Monitor all newborn screened on Guam for hearing loss before 1 month of age, preferably before hospital discharge with the system integrating into the birthing sites data collection effort.
Goal 2: Monitor all infants who screen positive to ensure a diagnostic audiological evaluation before 3 month of age with data linkages between Guam EHDI and data maintained by the clinical audiologists.
Goal 3: Monitor all infants identified with hearing loss to ensure that the infant receives appropriate early intervention services before 6 months of age with data integration of the Guam EHDI system to the DOE-GEIS.
Goal 4: Monitor infants and children with late onset, progressive or acquired hearing loss who will be identified at the earliest possible time with data integration with the Guam DOE-GEIS Child Find data system.
Goal 5: Ensure that all infants with hearing loss will have a medical home as defined by the American Academy of Pediatrics, with data integration of the Guam EHDI system to the Guam DOE-GEIS program. In addition, Guam will have a complete EHDI Tracking and Surveillance System that will minimize loss to follow up by developing appropriate data linkages with the birthing sites, Guam DOE-GEIS, Clinical Audiologists, and the medical home; and Guam will have developed quality assurances within the comprehensive system that monitors and evaluates the progress towards the EHDI Goals and Objectives.
